This was an activity I did during the practicum using yarn, feathers, pastels, construction paper, birdseed, etc., which they really enjoyed. I was stuck with the dilemma of not knowing whether to display a variety of locals bird in the classroom or on PowerPoint (to give the kids ideas), or ask them to just
come up with the designs themselves. I did one example myself (at left with orange beaks) to show them how one might look, and then I let them do whatever they wanted - I think that was a good choice. I decided that fluorescent pink beaks and orange feathers wouldn’t “floor me” after all. The bird seed got a bit messy though, but it was manageable!

I really loved your students' pieces, Matthew - they were very unique and striking! I loved that they used a variety of materials, and having "real" feathers added a great touch. Well done!
Matthew I was not able to bring my mom to the art show but we went to the university over the weekend to see the art. She comented on how lovely your student's art was and said that it was really nice how you made it 3-D.
Matthew, I have to say that I was so impressed by your pieces of art. I loved how you used so many different materials. I really am going to use your idea if that's okay! :) Way to go Matthew! Hugs!
